Women and the heart
Dr Puntmann specialises in female heart health, recognising that cardiovascular disease in women is often underdiagnosed and poorly predicted by traditional risk factors. Symptoms of heart disease in women frequently differ from “textbook” descriptions, leading to delayed recognition and treatment.
Her practice focuses on women’s cardiovascular care across all life stages, with particular expertise in early conditions that may affect the heart, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), gestational hypertension, and post-pre-eclampsia care, as well as comprehensive pre-, peri-, and post-menopausal heart assessments.
Dr Puntmann also provides targeted cardiac evaluation for women with treatment-related heart complications, including those following cancer therapies, and for female patients after breast surgery, where echocardiography can often be technically challenging. Advanced imaging strategies are used to ensure accurate and reliable assessment when standard techniques are limited.
Her approach is centred on personalised, female-specific cardiovascular care, addressing the unique physiological, hormonal, and treatment-related factors that shape women’s heart health.
