Hypertrophy

Dr Puntmann specialises in comprehensive assessment and management of hypertrophic heart conditions, integrating advanced imaging and precision phenotyping to distinguish physiological from pathological hypertrophy. Her clinical expertise spans hypertension-related hypertrophic remodelling and hypertensive heart disease, cardiac involvement in chronic kidney disease, and conditions characterised by increased myocardial mass such as athlete’s heart and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).

Through her research, including the use of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) to distinguish hypertensive from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Dr Puntmann has helped define imaging biomarkers that improve diagnostic accuracy and guide tailored patient care. Her work on T1 mapping and myocardial tissue characterisation supports differentiation of diffuse interstitial fibrosis and phenotypes across hypertrophic conditions, thereby refining risk stratification and management.

Dr Puntmann’s approach combines detailed morphological and functional assessment with evidence-based interpretation, ensuring careful evaluation of increased left ventricular wall thickness and hypertrophic phenotypes in diverse clinical contexts.
