Getting a Cardiac MR Scan

We take every effort to make people feel comfortable while having a CMR scan. Our staff is trained to put patients at ease and support them during the preparation as well as while in the CMR scanner.

What to Expect

  • Duration: For most routine indications, the scans last about 20-30 minutes
  • Comfort: Patients listen to gentle, soothing, relaxing music while in the scanner
  • Support: We stay with patients in the scanner if that would make them feel more comfortable
  • No sedation: We prefer to avoid sedatives, as we rely on patients’ cooperation with the breathing commands to ensure that images are diagnostic

Preparation

Before your scan, you will be asked about any metal implants, pacemakers, or other devices that may be affected by the magnetic field. Please inform our staff of any relevant medical history.

If you have concerns about claustrophobia or anxiety, please let us know in advance so we can make appropriate arrangements.
